Welcome to Jayserv.xyz! I created this blog to share my journey through both professional IT service management and the ever-evolving world of my homelab.
Over the years, I’ve spent countless hours trying to piece together scattered information just to get something working at home—whether it’s building a network, testing applications or working with Home Assistant. That experience sparked an idea: why not write a blog and share what I’ve learned? If I’ve struggled to find the answers, chances are someone else has too.
I’m also deeply passionate about ITSM and ITIL. With nearly 20 years in IT, I’ve had the opportunity to build and lead teams, shape key processes, and drive improvements across large environments. A blog feels like a natural place to reflect on that experience and offer practical insights for others working in this space.
Professionally, I established our Service Desk from scratch many years ago. Built on ITIL best practices, it started in Glasgow and has since grown into a UK-wide operation, with analysts and 2nd-tier support specialists supporting staff across multiple sites. It’s become more than a support function—it’s a vital part of how the business stays productive.
In addition to leading the Service Desk, I own, write, and manage several core ITIL processes, including Change Management, Problem Management, and Asset Management. The Change Co-ordinator role also reports into me, ensuring change activity is well-governed and risk is proactively managed.
I also oversee our Application Delivery team, which handles software deployments and updates across the organisation. Vulnerability management is a critical focus area here, helping us maintain a secure and resilient application environment.
This blog is where I share ideas, challenges, and lessons from both the day job and the homelab. Whether you’re an IT leader, technician, or just someone who enjoys building and breaking things, I hope you find something useful here.
